【摘要】:C.albicansisayeastthatisfoundasacommensalinthegastrointestinal,genitourinary,andalimentarytractsofhealthyindividuals,bothhumanandloweranimals(3,4,5).Assuch,itisaseriousopportunisticpathogenofhumansandmaycausesuperficialordeepmycoticinfections.Consequently,theyeastisfoundinrawsewageandinnaturalwatersreceivinghumanandanimalwastes.C.albicanscansurviveinsituinseawaterforatleastsixdays(6).Invitrosurvivaloftheyeastindistilled(7)andlakewater(8)hasbeendemonstratedalso.WhilethereisatpresentnoepidemiologicalevidenceconnectinghumandiseasecausedbyC.albicansanduseofwater,theorganismmaybeausefulindicatorofrecreationalwaterquality(9).Thetestmethodmaybeappliedtothemonitoringofvarioustreatmentprocessesforefficiencyinremovingparticularpathogensinwastewaterpriortodischargeinreceivingwaterswhichinturnmaybeusedagainforavarietyofpurposes.Bothpublichealthandsanitaryengineeringinterestsshouldbeawareofthepresenceofthisyeastinwastewaterandthepotentialfordiseaseincontiguouswaters.FuturestudiesbetweentheincidenceofC.albicansandtraditionalwaterqualityindicators(forexample,totalandfecalcoliforms,fecalstreptococci)mayrevealacorrelationofvalueintheassessmentofpotentialhealthrisksofswimmingorotherrecreationalwaters.1.1ThistestmethodcoversthedetectionandenumerationoftheyeastCandidaalbicansinrawsewage,wastewaters,andnaturalwaters.1.2Itistheresponsibilityoftheanalysttodetermineifthistestmethodyieldssatisfactoryresultsinwatersofothermatrices.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Foraspecifichazardstatement,seeSection.
