【摘要】:ThisEuropeanStandardspecifiesopticalcharacteristicsforprocessinglettersandgivesguidelinesonthevaluesoftheseattributesthatwillassureahighlevelofaddressreadability.ItisaimedatfacilitatingrelationsbetweenPostalOperatorsandCustomersbyprovidinginformationthatmailerscanusetoensurethattheaddressestheyprintcanbeprocessedsuccessfullybypostalautomationsystems.Thestandardisintendedtosupport:??assessmentoftheprobablereadabilityofaprintedaddress,usinggivenaddressrecognitionequipment,withoutactuallysubmittingittotheequipment;??determinationofthechangesinaddressprintingcharacteristicsthatarerequiredtoachieveadesiredlevelofaddressreadabilityusinggivenaddressrecognitionequipment;??assessmentofthecomplexity,andthusthecost,oftheaddressrecognitionequipmentneededtoachieveadesiredlevelofreadabilityofaddresseswithgivenprintingcharacteristics.ThestandardappliestomailitemswhosesizeisuptoandincludingC51,butmayalsobeappliedtooversizeitems,commonlyreferredtoasC5+,andtoflats.Theaddressblockscoveredare:??thedeliveryaddressblock;??thesenderaddressblockifthisisprintedonthesamesideofthemailitemasthedeliveryaddressblock.Theguidelinesprovidedinthestandardapplytoaddressblocksastheyappearonfinishedmailitemswhensubmittedtopostaloperators,andnotjusttoaddressesandthesubstrateonwhichtheyareprinted.Usersofthestandardareresponsiblefordeterminingthephysicalparameterswhicharerequiredtoachievecomplianceaftertakingaccountofcharacteristicswhichresultfrommailitemfeatures,otherthanprinting,suchascovering,theuseoftransparentwindowenvelopesandtheuseofaddresslabels.Theguidelinesarebasedonphysicalattributesthattendtoinfluencethereadabilityofaddressesbyopticalcharacterrecognition(OCR)equipmentandbyvideo-coders.Totheextentthatthisispossible,attributeshavebeenselectedsoastobeeasilycontrollableandtobemeasurableusingsimple,low-cost,means.Theattributevaluesgivenarebasedoncommonnotionsoftypographyandoncolourreferencesystemsthatarelikelytobeknownbymailers.Thevaluesgivenshouldbeinterpretedasrecommendationsorguidelines,notasstrict,mandatory,all-or-nothingrules.OCRsystemsarecomplexandtheirbehaviouristhereforenoteasilymodelledbysimpleattributes.Asaresulttheambitionofthestandardislimitedbythedifficultyofdefiningsomeattributesinformalterms,eventhoughtheirinfluenceonaddressreadabilityhasbeenproven.Wherethisisthecase,thestandardusesexamples,listsofpreferredvalues,orliteraldescriptionstogivehintsonhowtomaximiseaddressreadability.Sinceallattributesdonotcontributeuniformlytothereadabilityofanaddress,thestandardidentifiestwolevelsofsalienceforeachattribute(highandnormal).Thesetwolevelsaredesignedtoaidinthedefinitionofreadabilityclassesbyusersofthestandard.Thisstandardconsidersaprintedaddressasbeingmadeupofaseriesoflinesofprintedinformation2.Guidelinesrelatedtosuchaddresslinesarerelevantforalllinesinanaddressblock.
